Photographer and Naturalist Hugh Rose

I was drawn north at as soon as I was old enough to travel. Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, I moved south as a young child to New England with my parents where I grew up exploring the hills of New England and southern Canada. College took me to the Green Mountains of Vermont where I studied geology and began to hone my passion for photography, and everything outdoors. After a 10 year career in geology I ended up in Alaska working as a naturalist and guide and pursuing freelance photography. The vast landscapes and wildlife of the polar regions of the earth have been both my subjects and passion for the last 18 years. Other places in the world have intrigued me as well and I continue to explore and interpret the world's natural beauty through my photography and by guiding photo/natural history tours from my home in Fairbanks, Alaska. My photography business includes, freelance and stock photography as well as Fine Alaskan Photographic prints.

As a photographer I have spent a significant part of my career photographing in the arctic and feels that this environment offers some of the most incredible raw beauty in North America. My photographs have appeared in Sierra Club Calendars, Northern Light Calendars, Denali Wilderness Calendars, National Trade Magazines, Frommer's Travel Guide, Alaska Airlines Magazine, Outdoor Life, BBC, National Wildlife Federation, and numerous other publications.
